City Council held a joint work session last night with the Planning and Zoning Commission.
They were responding to questions posed by members of Houseal Lavigne Associates, the firm hired to do the city’s comprehensive plan.

Jaemi Jackson, Senior Associate with Houseal Lavigne started the gathering by giving an update on the project’s progress.
Things kicked off in April and since then have conducted a community meeting, a business workshop and a workshop with city staff.

“After this workshop we’re going to take all that information take the interviews, everything we’ve heard from the community, put that into an existing conditions report. What that does is tells you what’s in the community currently. It provides that foundation that we’re going to use to make recommendations going forward,” Jackson says.

In the Erickson Conference Room at City Hall Jackson asked council and commission members about what they saw as Galesburg’s issues or concerns.

Members then voted on what they saw as the top three most challenging with top vote-getters being need for good paying jobs, need for a skilled workforce and vacant housing.
