ROWVA District 208 kicked off the new school year on Tuesday. Superintendent Joe Sornberger gave WGIL an update on some building improvements, like the new entry way for the high school.
He says some bids have come in, and at Monday’s meeting, he’s hoping to get the work approved – and have it done by Thanksgiving. Sornberger said, “We’ll rip out all the concrete, take out all the doors… take out the flooring in the entry way… So we’ll have new doors, new concrete, making it handicap-accessible. We’ll also have the security buzz-in system on both the front and back door of the high school.” The facelift to the school’s entry way will include new windows as well. Sornberger also said that with help from the ROWVA Public Schools Foundation, next year, they will be building a brand new Chem Lab. A new boiler for the school is also a future project. Another initiative the district Sornberger says, “has worked tirelessly on” this week is professional development. With a 1:45pm dismissal this week, Sornberger has area community businesses coming in and presenting to teachers on what skills and traits they look for in potential employees who are fresh out of high school. He also said a brand new track and football field is being built in Galva – so Mid-County home football games will be played in ROWVA. Meet the Cougars night is this Friday, teams from ROWVA, Galva, and Williamsfield will be introduced, followed by a scrimmage.
