93rd District State Representative Norine Hammond was recently presented the “Voice of Senior Care Award”.

The award was presented by the Illinois Health Care Association at their annual convention held last week in Peoria. The award is presented annually to deserving state legislators who support the mission of the IHCA. In a statement, Matt Hartman, Vice President of the Public Policy for the IHCA said: “Representative Hammond’s tireless work on the issue of Medicaid eligibility determinations is legendary.” Hammond carried and passed into law HB2814 earlier this year – a measure which Amends provisions of the Illinois Public Aid Code requiring the Department of Human Services and the Department of Healthcare and Family Services to jointly report the number of applications and re-determinations pending long-term care eligibility determination and admission and the number of appeals of denials. Hartman went on to say that “the representative herself has had numerous meetings, calls and visits with providers in her district to help solve this issue.”  In addition to her efforts moving issues of importance to Illinois Health Care’s profession, the Representative was the sole voice of opposition to a bill that would have damaged the profession as a whole. The Illinois Health Care Association is a non-profit organization comprised of over 500 licensed and certified long term care facilities and programs throughout the state.  The IHCA seeks to promote the highest standard of services in facilities and programs for the elderly and physically and mentally challenged.
