GHS Volleyball places second in Burlington

Galesburg would come in second at the Burlington Invitational on Saturday – with a 3-1 record.

The Silver Steaks volleyball team defeated Davis County 21-15, 24-22; Burlington 17-21, 21-13, 15-4; and Mt. Peasant 22-20, 21-17.

In the championship game, however, it would be Fairfield getting the win in three sets: 16-21, 21-16, 15-11.

 

AREA VOLLEYBALL
The Knoxville Blue Bullets finished 2nd at their tournament on Saturday.

The Championship matchup between them and Wethersfield ended 25-17, 25-12.

Illini Bluffs took 3rd while Roanoke-Benson 4th. West Central 5th, Kewanee 6th, Stark County 7th, Abingdon Avon finished in 8th.

 

BOYS GOLF
The Silver Streaks came in fourth at the Silver Streaks Invitational at Bunker Links on Saturday.

Quincy picked up the first place position shooting a 295, while Peoria Notre Dame shot a 298 for second, and Alleman in third with a 304. GHS carded a 307.

Owen Hawkins had a great performance – shooting for a 69 (-2) to lead the Streaks and earning medalist honors.

Luke Watson finished in a tie for third place with a 73. Justin Endtoff shot an 80 for 17th place and Luke Bradburn came in 23rd carding an 85.

The Mercer County Golden Eagles won the United Open Golf Tournament at Gibson Woods on Saturday.

Mer-Co finished with a 326 while Brimfield and Williamsfield both finished with a 337 – with the Indians taking second off the fifth-man tie breaker.

United was forth finishing with a 358 while Mid-County took fifth shooting a 362.

 

GIRLS GOLF
On the girls side of the Silver Streaks Invite, GHS finished sixth overall with a 380, while Quincy – again – took the top spot carding a 328.

Geneseo took second place finishing 344 and Macomb third with a 357.

Galesburg’s Maitlyn Sanders carded a 79 to finish third while Rylee Chockley had an 85 – tying her for ninth.

 

JR. HIGH FOOTBALL
The Galesburg 7th grade Streaks defeated Peoria Heights 36-6 in a non-conference match-up at Lombard on Saturday.

Joseph Moren racked up 123 rushing yards and 3 rushing touchdowns and a two point conversion.

Cameraon Aguire had 60 yards and a touchdown, while Emilio Toress had 55 yards and a touchdown.

On the defensive side, Noah Wright had 10 tackles while Tritan Legate had 4, and Jon Sibley had a fumble recovery.

The 7th grade Streaks will be back in action for conference play on Tuesday at Lombard Field.

 

COLLEGE
FOOTBALL
Knox 13, Ripon 6

 

WOMEN’S SOCCER
Monmouth College defeated Ripon on Saturday afternoon  2-1.

Heading into halftime both teams were tied at nothing until Diana Salamanca recovered a challenged ball and punched in the first goal of the game.

Ripon tied it up early in the second half, but that didn’t hold for long.

Off a feed from Natalie Wolski, Hannah Kugler cranked in a midfield game-winning goal in the 77th minute of play.

The Scots outshot the Red Hawks 18-10.

On Sunday the Scots fell to St. Norbert 2-1.

The Green Knights took the early lead in the 18th minute – and held that lead going into the second half.

Alex Izqueirdo – off a feed from Natalie Wolski – got a shot in the back of the net to tie it up 1-1.

The Knights regained the lead three minutes later to get the win.

The Streaks slipped to 6-4 with a 1-1 Midwest Conference record.

MEN’S SOCCER
Monmouth posted their second straight shut out on Saturday with a 3-0 blanking of Ripon to open Midwest Conference play.

Agustin Miranda scored a pair of goals for the Scots. Cadan Glattback gave the Scots an insurance goal in the 77th minute.

Assists came from Jack Ressler, Connor Oltman, and Lucas Sondgeroth.

On Sunday, a failed defense and lacking offensive cost the Scots as they fell to St. Norbert 5-0.

Chase Stroud turned aside four of five shots in the first 45 minutes of the game – but the second half was a different story.
