Churchill sweeps Lombard in Jr. High Basketball

The Churchill girls got two wins over cross-town rival – Lombard. 

The 7th grade Blue Streaks defeated the Zephyrs 45-19.

Hannah Dillbeck led Churchill with 11 points while Juniper Schwartzman had 8, and Jaidyn Strong had six. The 7th graders are 11-5

It was a closer matchup in the 8th grader’s game, but Churchill edged out Lombard 34-31 in the end.

Abby Davidson scored 13 points for the Blue Streaks, while Grace Nelson and Kadynce Lydic shot for six points and Abby Lingafelter had five.

The 8th grade girls are 12-4 on the year.

Churchill will be at home against Monmouth-Roseville today.

 

HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL
The Mercer County Golden Eagles defeated the Williamsfield Bombers in two sets last night: 25-17, 26-24.

Williamsfield was led by Alvia Alford with six kills and two blocks while Lexi Little had 11 digs Grace Powell had three aces, and Gionna Ott racked up 13 assists.

The Golden Eagles were led by Karli Stineman who had four kills and seven blocks.

Taylor Boydston – who had four kills, and Emma Coulter who dominated – serving 14 ppoints, had eight aces and had four digs.

Stark County beat Ridgewood in three sets: 25-16, 22-25, 27-25.

Ridgewood’s Annie Athaus had 11 kills and eight blocks, Jenna Stornquist made 13 digs and had six aces, and Ali Lambin racked up 24 assists.

Princeville over ROWVA in two: 25-14, 25-18
Wethersfield defeated Annawan in straight sets: 25-15, 25-21

 

COLLEGE MEN’S SOCCER
The Knox Prairie Fire men’s soccer team won their third straight on Wednesday night with a 3-0 victory over Illinois College.

The Prairie Fire took the 1-0 lead into halftime and again waited to find the net again.

Goals from James Barrington, Erick Karkut, and Nick Janulis.

The Prairie Fire will host Cornell on Saturday in the final home game of the season.

Monmouth and Beloit put on a good show in Rockford Tuesday after Saturday’s scheduled match in Beloit was postponed due to poor field conditions following heavy rain.

The Scots and Bucs made it worth the wait for the fans who witnessed two second half goals and double overtime in the 1-1 stalemate.

Lucas Sondgeroth nailed an unassisted goal for the Scots to send the game into the first OT.

The Scots will play their final home game on Saturday against Lawrence
