Over the weekend a Galesburg man was arrested for repeatedly threatening a police officer while being apprehended.

Just after midnight on Sunday, officers were responding to The Corral on Grand Avenue for an alleged bar fight. Officers were told that a suspect “Edward Bush” was leaving the scene.

According to police reports, officers arrived on scene and questioned 54-year-old Edward C. Bush Sr. who became increasingly aggressive. Allegedly he began shouting and stepping towards the questioning officer.

He was instructed to step back, with the officer putting up his hand to act like a barrier, but allegedly Bush refused to step back and continued his aggressive behavior.

Officers attempted to restrain him by applying force. According to the reports, one officer used a “wrist lock” to secure Bush’s arms behind his back so he could be handcuffed.

Allegedly Bush took exception to that, and began making threats towards the officer who applied the maneuver.

After being escorted to the squad car, officers conducted a search on him where he allegedly continued instigating them. Reports indicate he was pulling away and bumping into them and continued making verbal threats toward the a officer. He was then forced to the ground so officers could regain control.

After investigating the initial disturbance, reports indicate Bush Sr. was responsible for whatever fight took place, however no one that was interviewed wanted to press charges.

Allegedly while being booked at the Knox County Jail, Bush continued making threats towards the officer who applied the force needed to have him handcuffed.

Allegedly several hours later, Knox County Deputies contacted Galesburg Police to inform them that Bush hadn’t stopped making threatening comments, going as far as threaten the officer’s life.

It was determined at that time that Edward C. Bush Sr. would be charged with a Class 3 Felony of Threatening a Public Official. That is on top of a citation he allegedly received for disorderly conduct and a misdemeanor charge of Resisting a Police Officer.
