After the owner of the Quad City Mallards decided to close up shop at the end of the most recent season, there was doubt as to whether hockey would continue in some form in the Quad Cities at the TaxSlayer Center (formerly the iWireless Center, formerly The Mark of the Quad Cities). Wednesday, officials announced that a new team has been secured in the Southern Professional Hockey League — the same league the Peoria Rivermen are in.
