Mary L. Upton, 76, of Monmouth, IL, passed away at 3:15 a.m., Friday, July 13, 2018 at Monmouth Nursing Home, Monmouth from complications from a recent stroke. She was born on May 18, 1942 in Macomb, IL, the daughter of Kelly L. and Darlys A. (Sullivan) Hamilton. Mary was raised and educated in Monmouth and graduated from Monmouth High School in 1960.
Mary married John D. Upton on October 22, 1960 in Palmyra, MO, he survives.
Mary worked in office management and banking for many years. She worked at Monmouth College, National Bank of Monmouth, McGladrey & Pullen, Western Illinois University, and Community National Bank, until retiring in 2004. Mary was an avid reader, she enjoyed watching old western movies, cooking, having coffee with her girlfriends, and most of all, spending time with her grandchildren.
Surviving Mary is her husband, John D. Upton of Monmouth; her children, Ginger (Tim) Blackman of Florida, Jackie (Jim) Watson of Monmouth, Kari (Tim) Painter of Monmouth, John Upton III of Monmouth; five grandchildren, Tonya Fisher of Washington, Trisha Blackman of Florida, Ben Watson of Monmouth, Jayson Upton of Roseville, IL, Mackenzie Upton of Roseville, IL; one sister, Wanda Couchman of Florida; and one brother, Russell Hamilton of Champaign, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Graveside Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 21, 2018 at Warren County Memorial Park, Monmouth, IL. Memorials can be made to Monmouth Nursing Home.
