Rep. Dan Swanson

State Representative Dan Swanson is continuing something he started this week when he worked with the Veterans Assistance Commission in Henry County prior to becoming the area’s representative in the Illinois House.

Swanson is hosting free resources fairs open to veterans and senior citizens this week throughout the 74th District. The one for this area will be Wednesday from 11 a-m to 1 p-m at the Knoxville American Legion.

“When we think of our elderly veterans they may not have the access to [computers] so that information flow in the information world, and now the internet world, is new to them,” Swanson said. “So bringing this to their doorsteps or bringing them to a central location to hear from so many different groups as part of the awareness and part of the education for our veterans.”

Swanson adds that there will be about 40 exhibitors participating, including Bridgeway, Equip For Equality, Galesburg Cottage Hospital Hospice, Goodwill, Hy-Vee, the Illinois Department of Employment Security, Illinois State and Treasurer.

Information, Swanson tells WGIL, like from the Veterans Administration, on dealing with the medicaid system, and other things. A resource fair is being held Monday in Geneseo, Tuesday in Aledo, and Thursday in Princeton.

The veterans and seniors resource fair for Knox County will be Wednesday from 11 to 1 at the Knoxville American Legion. It’s free, and lunch will be served.

Any potential exhibitors can contact Swanson’s district office in Woodhull.
