One of the bigger fundraising efforts of the year for Galesburg High School athletics is Monday, August 6th.The Galesburg Athletic Boosters Club Golf Outing begins at 1:00 pm Monday at Soangetaha Country Club. Mark Thomas is a booster club member and tells WGIL the GHS Athletic Director is given a budget – so the booster club helps support athletics by buying items for teams as a whole. “A lot of the money we raise goes right back into the sports programs this coming year,” Thomas said. “They always need new things. Maybe it’s new uniforms, a new fence covering for the softball field…we’ve bought headsets for the football team…or maybe it’s a new pitching machine (that) we bought for the baseball team last year. Maybe they’re wants and not needs – but the only way to get them is to come to us, and that’s why we exist.” The cost is $400 for a foursome – which will include registration for door prizes and more. The golf outing will begin with a lunch of hamburgers and chicken sandwiches, chips and a drink for $12. First and second place will get paid in each flight. The outing also includes hole prizes and pin events. Registration also includes a steak dinner at Soangetaha Country Club. To register, call Mark Thomas at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home in Galesburg or email galesburgathleticboosterclub@gmail.com.
