Man killed in shootout with suburban Chicago police

RICHTON PARK, Ill. (AP) – Suburban Chicago police say a man has been killed in a shootout with officers from two departments.

Authorities say members of the Richton Park and Park Forest police departments exchanged fire Monday with a man who matched the description of a suspect wanted in a shooting that happened in Park Forest earlier in the day.

In a statement by the Park Forest Police Department, authorities say when officers approached the man in Richton Park he displayed a handgun.

An exchange of gunfire followed as the man ran away. The man collapsed and was later pronounced dead. The suspect hasn’t been identified, pending notification of his family.

The victim in the earlier shooting provided investigators with a description of his alleged assailant that was similar to the dead man. The victim was hospitalized at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn with a head wound.
