Knox County’s contracted architect, Cody Basham told the Building Committee last night the new space for the IT department in the Courthouse basement has been completed.

The only thing Basham says that needed corrected was a horizontal wall base which he said he had already informed the contractor of.

Information Technology Coordinator Andy Rowe has nothing but good to say about the space according to Basham.

He adds that the space is much quieter and a much better working environment, after unsealed ducts were reported to make the office loud and overheated.

Also Committee Chair Lyle Johnson said at next month’s committee meeting Orry Cummings with SmartWatt will be in attendance.

SmartWatt is a company that recommends energy saving methods, funded by a third party contract, and would potentially be paid by the county with a percentage of energy savings.

Johnson says Cummings will bring materials to inform the board on what kinds of things could be bid out for energy savings, and how to go about it.
