Threat made to Abingdon-Avon Schools; student arrested

UPDATED:  Officials in the Abingdon-Avon School District say a threat made to one of their schools has been contained, with one student being arrested.

The district Thursday sent out an alert to parents and posted on the district’s Facebook page that the district was made aware of a threat to a school Wednesday night and that the source of the threat was quickly identified.  The statement from the district does not specifically indicate what school the threat was made toward.

The Knox County Sheriffs Department says a student has been arrested and is in custody at the Knox County Mary Davis Home on a felony charge of Disorderly Conduct.  Despite the adult charge, officials did not otherwise identify the student.  Abingdon Police Chief Ken Jones says the student lives outside the city limits of Abingdon.

The district says they’re working with local law enforcement, and that extra patrols will be in place the rest of the week.

The district says the safety of students and employees is their number one priority. However, some presumed parents have already taken to the district’s Facebook page to claim that parents should have been notified sooner.
