The Galesburg Public Schools Foundation annual Celebrity Dinner is tonight featuring keynote speaker, Galesburg native, and former Major League baseball player Jim Sundberg. The Galesburg Public Schools Foundation raises funds to enhance the educational, interscholastic and extracurricular opportunities for students in District 205. During Sundberg’s 16-year career he spent time with the Rangers, Brewers, Royals and Cubs. He was a 3-time All Star, a 6-time Gold Glove Award winner, a World Series Champion with the Royals in 1985, and is in the Texas Rangers Hall of Fame. Sundberg was Senior Executive Vice President with the Rangers from 2004 to 2014. Sundberg’s book “How to Win at Sports Parenting: Maximizing the Sports Experience for You and Your Child” will be available at tonight’s event. “I think those who have read it have reflected back to us that it helped them relax and enjoy the sports experience much better,” Sundberg said. “If you don’t use the sports experience to develop qualities and values that they can take on into life, then that could really hurt relationships after that point on and into adulthood.” The Galesburg Public Schools Foundation Celebrity Dinner tonight is at 6:00pm at the Galesburg Knights of Columbus Hall. Tickets are available online here.
