Late last week, Congresswoman Cheri Bustos announced more than $3 million in funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Development program for the Villages of Elizabeth and Woodhull.

The funds are part of USDA’s larger efforts to rebuild and improve water infrastructure for more than 936,000 Americans living in rural communities.

In a news release, Bustos said: “As an advocate for rural America, I understand that modern water infrastructure is a necessity, not an amenity, for our communities to thrive.” She added that “these job-creating Rural Development dollars will go a long way in giving small towns like ours an opportunity to grow and succeed.”

The USDA is investing $1,198,000 in grants and $1,200,000 in loans in the Village of Woodhull to complete all water projects necessary to ensure the state can continue to provide its 811 residents with a sewer system that meets state environmental guidelines.

To complete all water projects in the Village of Woodhull the USDA is investing nearly $1.2 million in grants and $1.2 million in loans.

The funds will ensure and provide 811 residents have a sewer system that meets state environmental guidelines.

Woodhull already received over $3.3 million in Water and Waste Disposal loans from the USDA.

Elizabeth, Illinois will receive over $600,000 in grants and $290,000 in loans for water infrastructure improvements.

Bustos is serving on the Farm Bill Conference Committee that is working to negotiate the final version of the Farm Bill.

She’s also a member of the House Agriculture and Transportation and Infrastructure Committees.

The House version of the Farm Bill had a number of objectionable measures, including zeroing out mandatory funding for USDA Rural Development programs.

The Senate version did not include this cut, and Bustos has been fighting to protect funding for programs like this.
