Knox County and large parts of the Midwest already have experienced a heaping helping of winter weather at this end of year period, but meteorologists are calling for above average temps for the rest of the month.

Dan Hicks with Freese-Notis Weather says it has to do with a lack of cold Canadian air, “If you don’t have Canadian air coming into the Midwest this time of year, it’s hard to keep temperatures below normal. If you have that Pacific influence, you generally have above normal temperatures and that’s what the trend is looking like through December.”

Hicks doesn’t see a push of Canadian air making its way too far over the U.S.-Canadian border until January.

So far Galesburg average temps have been in line with December averages over the last 20 years.

Over the next week, the National Weather Service is forecasting days with temperatures topping out in the mid 40’s and nighttime lows regularly hanging around the 30s.
