Here is a recap of the game from WGIL’s Brad Bennewitz:
” A fourteen nothing run in the second quarter by the Sterling Golden Warriors helped turn around the fortunes of the game and Sterling ended up prevailing 48-45 over the Galesburg boys basketball team at the Taylorville Holiday Tournament. Prior to the run, the Silver Streaks were up 18-7 but it really turned around the style of the game with Sterling eventually building a ten point lead in the third quarter before the Streaks rallied back to tie the game twice in the fourth quarter, but missed a number of scoring opportunities to regain the lead and Sterling ended up winning it by three. Galesburg drops to 8-5 on the season in spite of 16 points from leading scorer Eric Price, 10 rebounds from Kieth Cunningham, and 12 rebounds by Jaylin McCants who was our Dave’s Autobody Crunch-Time Player of the Game. Jaylin knocked down two big 3-pointers during the fourth quarter rally and also rebounded a missed free-thow that gave the Streaks another opportunity, but again they just couldn’t convert shooting only 3/9 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter missing 5/6 at one point. Sterling improves to 8-3 and they are the pool champions, sending Galesburg as the second place team to a noon game Saturday. A win in that game would put the Galesburg Silver Streaks in the championship but a tough task to take on the top seed on the other side of the bracket. Sterling comes away with another win over Galesburg 48-45. “
