Galesburg Silver Streaks Girls Basketball vs Mattoon Green Wave

For the first time in five years coming to the Mattoon Holiday Tournament, the Galesburg Silver Streaks will not be playing in the Championship game as they fell to the host in the semi-final 55-50. The Streaks got down by 10 points in the third quarter and that was one of the big differences in the game but they did make a furious comeback in the fourth, actually tying the game at 44 apiece but they weren’t able to overcome.  Our Dave’s Autobody Crunch-Time Player of the Game was Daija Range leading the way for the Streaks with 16 points and 9 rebounds. She had a 6 point run in the fourth quarter that really got the Streaks back into it which propelled them to tie it up. Andrea Sampson also had a pretty good night finishing with 14 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal. The Streaks overall shot the ball fairly well going 20/45 from the field, but their big step forward was from the free-throws line finishing at 6/9. On the other side of things, Mattoon went to the line 21 times, converting 16 of those into points and in the second half alone went 13/18 shooting free-throws. The Streaks will be back at it Saturday afternoon around 3pm for the tipoff as they play for 3rd place against the Olney Tigers, who they already defeated once in this tournament, giving Galesburg the advantage as long as they can shake off the 55-50 loss to Mattoon.
