More signs are showing of Rep. Cheri Bustos’ political clout as she’s been selected to serve on the powerful House Appropriations Committee. Typically the three most sought after committees are Ways and Means, Energy and Commerce and Appropriations, which regulates the spending of federal money. Bustos’ confirmation to serve on Appropriations is expected to be confirmed by the House Democratic Caucus next week. The four-term Congresswoman says the appointment will allow her to “better advocate for Illinois families at the highest level of Congress.” One of the major priorities she sets out is investments in infrastructure and meeting the needs of “rural hospitals”, issues she’s spoken about previously. This as Bustos’ party has taken the Chamber majority for the first time in her tenure and will serve under Committee Chair Nita Lowey of New York. This also comes after Bustos became Chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee weeks ago, and got four votes for Speaker of the House even though Bustos never waivered in her support for Nancy Pelosi.
