A Galesburg man is facing a half dozen drug and weapons charges following his arrest early Friday morning.

Bond was set for 38-year-old Jason W. Ackman at $25,000 after he made a video appearance in Knox County Circuit Court with Judge Patricia A. Walton. Judge Walton also appointed the Public Defender’s office to represent Ackman in the case.

He faces two counts of armed violence, a Class X and Class Two charge, two counts of being a felon in possession of a weapon, a single count of manufacturing/delivery of cocaine, and a count of possession of a controlled substance. If convicted of the Class X Armed Violence charge, Ackman could be sentenced to 10 to 30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

According to a Galesburg Police report, shortly after midnight officers on patrol identified Ackman as driving on a suspended license. The vehicle pulled into a driveway in the 100-block of East Fifth Avenue. There, officers made contact with Ackman, who was allegedly behind the wheel.

After identifying himself, officers arrested Ackman for driving on a suspended license. During a search, officers found baggies containing a substance that later field test positive for cocaine. Additionally, officers found a “pocket knife that was spring assisted” inside of the vehicle, along with an ibuprofen bottle containing plastic baggies, and a purple backpack with a set of metal knuckles.

Ackman had previously been incarcerated in the department of corrections.

During the detention hearing, Assistant State’s Attorney Jonathon T. Schlake said that officers found 4.23-grams of cocaine in Ackman’s possession.

Judge Walton scheduled Ackman’s preliminary hearing for February 11th.
