Dr. Martin Luther King Community Breakfast is Monday, January 21st at 7:00 am. This year’s event will feature a Silas Willard Elementary student will portraying Dr. King for this year’s welcome. The proclamation of the Sibley Underpass to John Sibley’s wife, Vicki and Representative Dan Swanson. The NAACP essay contest winners will present – this year’s subject was Frederick Douglass. The breakfast will also feature keynote speaker Antony Law who is also the Coordinator of Diversity & Recruitment at Carl Sandburg College. “I think the purpose of the breakfast has always been to bring a community together to celebrate Dr. King,” Law said. “(It’s also) to reflect on his sacrifices and his leadership that he gave us but also to give us an opportunity. He had a dream. What are we doing to fulfill that dream? The best way to change the world is to change yourself. Then when you change yourself, you change your community, your neighborhood, your home. Then it keeps growing and growing and it expands. That’s what we’re going to discuss. Some of those things – some of those principles.” The cost is $7 for adults and $5 for those 10 and under, but Law said any school-aged child that wants to attend will have their admission paid for by a local donor.
