Here’s a recap of the game from WGIL’s Brad Bennewitz:
The Galesburg boys basketball team had a 9-point lead heading into the 4th quarter against St. Charles East, but it was the Fighting Saints who controlled the tempo and ended up winning the game. It took a buzzer-beater , a running floater from the left side from Nathan Ortiz from about 7-feet out went down off the glass as the horn sounded and the Fighting Saints came away with a 52-51 win over the Silver Streaks.
Galesburg drops to 14-10 in a disappointing loss and the Fighting Saints improved to 14-12.
Our Dave’s Autobody Crunch-Time Player of the Game was Kobe Ramirez, who stole the inbound ball with St. Charles East leading by a point with 15-seconds to go. Ramirez created the steal and then Quinn Anderson knocked the shot down to put the Streaks back on top. But again it was Ortiz who came back and hit the winning basket at the buzzer.
Jaylin McCants led the way with 16 points and 8 rebounds. Anderson finished with 11 points.
Meanwhile the Galesburg sophomores and freshman both won in their games over St. Charles East.
Up next for Galesburg, Alleman will be in town Friday night for the Streaks’ only game of the weekend. Live coverage begins at 7:06 PM on 93.7 FM and 1400 AM, WGIL.
