Lloyd P. Carlson, 86, of Woodhull, Illinois died Sunday, February 24, 2019 at Trinity Medical Center in Rock Island.Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday March 1, 2019 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Woodhull.  Burial is in the Woodhull Cemetery where graveside military rites will be conducted. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Thursday at the Lloyd P. Carlson Room at the Woodhull Village Hall.  Peterson-Wallin-Knox Funeral Home in Woodhull is in charge of arrangements.  Memorials may be made to Bethany Lutheran Church or Tri-County Ambulance and online condolences can be made at www.petersonwallinknox.com.

He was born May 28, 1932 in Streater, IL to Paul and Chrystal Samuelson Carlson. He graduated from AlWood High School in 1950.  He was a U.S. Army veteran from 1952-1954 serving in Korea as a construction engineer.  Lloyd married Joanne L. Leppert April 14, 1957 in Galesburg.

Lloyd was a partner in the HLR Carlson Construction Company in Woodhull, IL, retiring in 2014.

Lloyd served as a Woodhull village trustee for 11 years, village president for 33 years and served again on the board for another 6 years.

He was a charter member of the Clover Manor Elderly Housing and the JI Case Antique Tractor Association.  Other memberships include: Henry County Zoning Board of Appeals, Edwards River Antique Engine Club, AlWood Jaycees, Western Illinois Antique Card Club and the Case Heritage Club.  Lloyd was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church where he served on the church board and taught adult Sunday school.  For many years, he served as commander of the American Legion Miles S. Sturgeon Post 546.

Lloyd loved Case tractors, antique cars and was proud to have made an honor flight.

Lloyd is survived by his wife: Joanne; two daughters: Carol Behrendt of Polo, IL; Nancy (Jeff) Willard of Orion, IL; one son: Bill (Colleen) Carlson of Woodhull, IL; one son-in-law: Rick Heschke of Brownwood, Texas; 4 grandchildren: Greg (Nickie) Willard, Christie (Kevin) Rangel, Trevor and Tyler Carlson; 5 great grandchildren: Abigail, Victoria, Isaiah, Titus and Madalyn; one sister: Norma (John) Ingram of Strawberry, Arkansas; four brothers: Harry (Donna) Carlson of Woodhull; Harvey (Barbara) Carlson; Wesley (Sandy) Carlson, all of Lynn Center; Robert (Glenda) Carlson of Madison, Indiana; several nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter: Kathy Heschke; one sister: Maxine McKinley and two brothers, Ralph and Raymond Carlson and a sister-in-law: Barbara Carlson.
