Richard Lee “Dick” Harding, 88, of Galesburg, died at 7:50 p.m. Saturday, March 9, 2019, at home.

He was born October 30, 1930, in Galesburg, the son of Aaron C. and Louise (Thoureen) Harding. He married Norma Jean Morton on April 6, 1962, in East Galesburg. She preceded him in death January 16, 1982. He later married Mona S. (Spencer) Sward on November 28, 1991, in Las Vegas. She preceded him in death February 14, 2017.

He is survived by a daughter, Linda S. Sward of Galesburg; a son, David E. Sward of Galesburg; eight grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; a brother, Ken (Chris) Harding of Galesburg; two sisters, Sharon Skeen of East Galesburg and Shirley Cedillo of Texas; and nieces and nephews. In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Phil, Ronald, John, and Robert “Bob” Harding.

Dick was a carpenter by trade. He worked as the business agent for the Carpenter’s Union for many years before retiring. He and Mona lived in Punta Gorda, Florida for several years before returning to Galesburg.

Dick enjoyed biking, reading, listening to country music, taking walks on the beach, and playing with his grandchildren.

He served in the United States Army for three years during the Korean War.

Private family graveside service will be Friday, March 15, 2019 in East Linwood Cemetery, where military honors will be offered. Pastor Bull will officiate. There will be no visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel is handling arrangements for the family.
