Former Henry County prosecutor named U.S. Central District Chief Judge

Judge Sara Darrow was elevated to Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court For the Central District of Illinois on Tuesday.Darrow was a former Henry County Assistant State’s Attorney from 1999 to 2003, trying several major felony and child exploitation cases.

She has served on the federal bench since being appointed by President Barack Obama in 2011.

As Chief Judge she’ll handle oversee the administration of the federal court district in addition to regular judicial duties.

Not only is Darrow the first woman to ever hold the Chief Judgeship in the Central District of Illinois, but at age-48, she’s one of the youngest.

During her eight years in the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Rock Island she prosecuted federal crimes in firearms, drugs, gangs including successfully prosecuting the regional enforcer of the Latin

Kings street king for racketeering and conspiracy.

Darrow’s duty station is in Rock Island.
Judge James Shadid is ending a 7-year term as Chief Judge, but will continue to serve on the bench.
