Carol M. Varner, 96, of Osage Beach, Missouri, formerly of Galesburg, died Wednesday morning, March 20, 2019 in Lakeside Meadows in Osage Beach.

She was born April 7, 1922, in Columbus Junction, Iowa, the daughter of Marcellus and Laura M. (Thompson) Teel. She married A.J. Varner on June 27, 1942 in Palmyra, Missouri. He preceded her in death May 30, 1996. She is survived by two daughters, Carol Ann Whittom of Osage Beach and Starr (Gary) Johnson of Springfield, Missouri; eight grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Andrew Varner; a daughter, Janice Lott; five brothers; and six sisters. Carol was raised and educated in Columbus Junction. After moving to Galesburg, she worked at the Frost Top Drive In in Knoxville, Mel’s Red and White Grocery in Knoxville for 10 years, then she worked at Admiral’s for 10 years before retiring. She and A.J. lived in the Lake of the Ozarks for several years before returning to Galesburg. She was a former member of the former Emmanuel United Methodist Church. Four years ago, Carol moved back to Missouri to be near her daughters.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 23, 2019 at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Galesburg. Pastor Andrew Wingo will officiate. There will be no visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to ASPCA. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel is handling arrangements for the family.
