The Knox County Nursing Home has a new administrator.

The county board approved the hiring of Jennifer Dunk to take over the facility Wednesday night. It was revealed that Dunk and interim administrator Donna Motz were both considered for the position.

Board member Brian Friedrich welcomed the new administrator and explained that the process of choosing between the two wasn’t easy.

“It was a lengthy interview process, it wasn’t easy. Donna, I don’t want you to think we left you out there, everything was under consideration,” Friedrich said. “We think together you guys are going to be a good team and look forward to good things coming. So, thank the both of you.”

According to Dunk’s online resume, she has served as the administrator of Regency Care of Sterling since January of 2018 and before that was with The Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society in Geneseo.

In other nursing home news, a resolution to authorize the nursing home to comply with prescription orders for residents, specifically for CBD oil to be prescribed to deal with pain, was approved by the board.

“We’ve had interest with CBD oil. A resident’s loved one wishes for their loved one to have it due to pain,” said Nursing Home Committee chair, Tara Wilder. “So, moving forward with medicine and going outside of the spectrum with that.”

She added that a doctor prescription of CBD oil would be needed for a nursing home resident to receive it.

Otherwise, it was business as usual for the Knox County Board.

The board approved the purchase of four new squad cars for the Sheriff’s Department, which would total about $109,850.

The low bid of $6,340 was approved for the fabrication and installation of a spiral staircase for the circuit clerk at the courthouse. The winning bid went to Titan Industries.

Additionally, board members approved to bid and bring back health, life, dental, and vision insurance for county employees as well as a new telephone service for the courthouse.
