A 23-year-old Galesburg man plead not guilty Monday to five Class X charges related to meth and weapons. Nicholas Sims was in court Monday with his attorney, Public Defender Daniel O’Brien.

Sims’ preliminary hearing involved a Galesburg Police detective testifying to how a search warrant was executed that turned up drugs and guns, that prosecutors say belong to Sims.

The warrant was executed at a residence Sims was residing in on Mar. 17, turning up three firearms, and approximately nine grams of ICE meth according to officer testimony in court.

Sims told police, as learned through Monday’s testimony, that the residence where the warrant was executed belongs to his father and he was staying there to help fix it up.

He also said the house had previously been rented out and some of the items in the house were left over from previous tenants.

Sims is currently on probation for a guilty plea to Class 3 felony possession of meth in 2018.

He’ll be back in court for a pre-trial hearing on June 3.
