Friday, April 12th is the 8th Annual Paladin’s Medieval Auction Adventure to benefit the Knox County Child Advocacy Center. The Child Advocacy Center is a safe place police or DCFS investigators send children who need to talk about sexual or serious physical abuse. The center has trained staff who listen to children to find out what happened to a child and providing any needed services, like counseling or medical examinations. Friday’s event includes A quarter, live and silent auction and a wine pull. “We have an Auction Adventure,” said Brooke Chesney, Executive Director of the Knox County Child Advocacy Center. “Why have one auction when you can have three different types of auctions? So we have, of course, our live auction. We have some great items on that this year. We’re back with the Quest for the Golden Chalice. We want you to meet our team members so much – and raise awareness because this is Child Abuse Prevention Month. So we want to make sure we raise awareness at our events as well and we’ll have materials on how to protect your children too.” Held April 12th at the Galesburg Knights of Columbus Hall, the Paladin’s Medieval Auction Adventure is from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm. The final installment of the Knox Galesburg Symphony’s Masterworks series is Saturday, April 13th. The fourth and final guest conductor vying for the KGS Maestro position, Vlad Vizireanu will present “Tragedy and Triumph”. The show will feature Tchaikovsky’s Symphony number 6 in B minor and Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto number 2. “I like to tell people: think of it like you’re going to see a movie,” Vizireanu told WGIL. “This stuff is in terms of drama and passion and emotion – there’s so much going on: there are characters, there’s narrative… You’re going to feel the same kind of things – especially with a group that so warm and inviting. I mean, it’s not to be missed. It’s really something that you’ll enjoy. These are the works that have survived time for a reason. They speak to all of us and what can I say? You won’t be sorry.” Described as a conductor with “ample gestures, clarity, precision, and genuine passion,” Vizireanu made his debut with the London Symphony Orchestra at Barbican Hall as the Second Prize Winner in the 2016 Donatella Flick Competition. He was most recently invited to the 2018 Malko Competition with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra in Copenhagen.
