Illinois jury convicts Indianapolis man in double killing

DANVILLE, Ill. (AP) – Jurors in eastern Illinois have convicted an Indianapolis man of a 2016 double-fatal shooting in Danville.

The (Champaign) News-Gazette reports jurors deliberated for less than three hours Tuesday before finding 30-year-old Glen T. Torres Jr. guilty in the deaths of 29-year-old Theodore “Teddy” Hill and 28-year-old Zarra Strickland. The Vermilion County jurors also found that Torres, a onetime Danville resident, personally discharged the weapon that killed Hill and Strickland on Aug. 2, 2015. That means Torres must receive a mandatory life term when he’s sentenced next month.

Torres’ attorneys had argued he wasn’t in Danville when the killings happened. Defense attorneys said Torres was home with his daughter at the time.

Torres showed no emotion when the verdict was read. The victims’ mothers embraced and cried.
