The Great Galesburg Shake is an opportunity for students in grades 4 – 12 to use their manners and conversational skills in a professional environment. In 2015, Galesburg District 205 adopted the 12 Tools for Triumph to teach students how to give a proper handshake, use eye contact, and present themselves for today’s opportunities as well as in the future. Several educators from District #205 attended the Ron Clark Academy in Atlanta. At the academy, they hold an annual competition called The Amazing Shake, which inspired the Great Galesburg Shake. Organizer Jodie McNally tells WGIL things get started Tuesday, May 14th. “Rounds one through three are all going to take place on Tuesday,” she said. “So we’ll start in the morning with the top 120 from the district in grades 4-12.  We’ve always dropped down to 24 in round two – this year we’re hoping to give more kids the experience if we can. So we’re actually dropping down to 40. Then round three will take us down to our top 12.” After round three, the top 8 will get to go on this year’s mystery trip. Last year, the mystery trip was New York City. Rounds four and five will be held during the mystery trip – and then the final round- round six, will be held live at the Orpheum Theatre next Monday, May 20th.
