Small Knox County lake community blocked in by ‘large sinkhole’

A trustee from Happy Hollow Lake Association says that the small lake community in Dahinda is blocked in by water.

Knox County Sheriff’s deputies are reportedly on scene working on a large sinkhole and trying to find a way to make the road passable.

Trustee Dennis Bantz tells WGIL that Ameren was going to be shutting off power and he was attempting to contact other agencies that could provide help.

There are about 25 homes that are now landlocked and accessible only by 4-wheeler, according to Knox County Emergency Management Chief Tom Simkins, who says the area is part of a private association, making any sort of disaster assistance unavailable.

“The Sheriff’s Office, GHAS (Galesburg Hospitals Ambulance Service), and Knox County EMA are working with Williamsfield and Dahinda Fire and the Association Board on a plan for emergency services to the area,” says Simkins.
