At approximately 12:23 pm on Thursday, June 13th two vehicles collided on Illinois Route 81 one mile west of Cambridge. The two vehicles involved were a 1999 Sterling Straight Truck – a cement truck, and a 2017 Chevrolet SUV. The cement truck was traveling westbound approximately a quarter of a mile from East 1000 Street – the SUV eastbound in the same location. The driver of the SUV sustained fatal injuries. The driver of the cement truck was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The collision occurred due to unknown reasons, and the names are being withheld at this time by the Illinois State Police. The roadway reopened later that night around 6:30 pm, but ISP’s investigation is on-going. WGIL News will have more information as it becomes official.
