An initiative to provide public transportation for rural Knox County residents could be making a big jump Wednesday night.
The county board will be considering the approval of a municipal and rural mass transit district, responsible for providing transportation for the rural communities within the county.
According to board documents, the transit district will seek funding through grant applications with the state Department of Transportation.
The mass transit district’s board of trustees will be made up of one chairman and five trustees, appointed by the county board, and a trustee who will be employed by the City of Galesburg.
The county will also consider an appointment to the rural transit development working committee, but there is no indication from the public board documents as to who that may be.
The board has other items to consider tonight, including a maintenance agreement contract with AMP and MSI for rates for county-owned properties.
The Knox County Board’s open session begins at 6:00 at the Galesburg City Council Chambers.
