A 21-year-old Galesburg man faces sex crimes after his arrest over the weekend.
Elijah M. Stewart was charged with felony counts of criminal sexual assault, criminal sexual abuse, and a misdemeanor charge of criminal sexual abuse. The criminal sexual assault is a Class 1 Felony.
According to a Galesburg Police report, officers were called out to St. Mary’s Medical Center where a 16-year-old girl claimed that “Stewart forced himself onto her while she was looking at her cell phone”
She was taken to OSF St. Francis in Peoria where a sexual assault kit would be performed.
Officers executed a search warrant at Stewart’s residence where his bed sheets and cell phone were confiscated. He was questioned and told police that the intercourse was consensual but admitted to knowing she was underage.
Stewart was in Knox County Circuit Court on Monday where bond was set at $15,000. His next court date is July 16th.
