205 board to consider bid specifications for Lombard and Steele renovations

The District 205 school board will consider accepting bid specifications at Monday night’s meeting.

If approved the bid specifications would be sent out to construction companies seeking bids for the work to be done.

According to board documents, the bids for Lombard Intermediate School would be due by July 23rd while Steele Elementary School is due by August 6th.

The indication from board documents is that construction will start within, quote, “30 calendar days after receipt of bids.”

The board will also be considering the approval of over $17,250,000 in debt certificates for construction projects.

Board members will also consider approving a therapy dog program — one that was presented to the board in June.

Jennifer Hamm, Assistant Superintendent of District Finances and Operations, is recommending the approval of the program.

According to board documents, she says that funding for the project has been secured with $1,800 coming from the Galesburg Public Schools Foundation and the remaining $2,400 coming from Medicaid Funds.

The board will also consider a dual credit agreement with Carl Sandburg College, allowing Galesburg Area Vocational Center students the chance to earn both high school and college credit.

The Board of Education could also approve an amended school calendar for the coming school year.

The District 205 board goes into an open meeting at 7:00 p.m. at the district offices on Harrison Street.
