27-year-old Grace Simpson, an Alexis native and 2010 graduate of United High School is giving voters in her home county the chance to cast a ballot for her as a Republican Mercer County State’s Attorney candidate in 2020.
Her education continued at Black Hawk East, then the University of Illinois, and finally law school at Southern Illinois University- Carbondale.

Post-graduation she was hired as an Assistant State’s Attorney in Henry County where she says she’s participated in some 10 to 15 jury trials since she started to handle felony cases.

But now she feels the time is right to give a shot at becoming Mercer County’s top prosecutor.

“Mercer County I hold very near and dear to my heart, born and raised, and I want to be able to come back and give back to the people that gave me so much and serve them” Simpson says.

She says dealing with drug crime and addiction will be a top priority of hers.

Simpson was out at the Mercer County Fair last week to introduce herself to voters.

It will be sometime before petitions are due but says she wanted to give residents a chance to see her face and learn about their concerns.
Democratic incumbent Meeghan Lee has not yet made an announcement on if she will seek another term.
