District 205 to consider Lombard and Steele bids tonight

The District 205 Board of Education will consider bids for work on the district-wide construction projects — specifically Lombard Middle School and Steele Elementary School at tonight’s meeting.

Superintendent Dr. John Asplund tells WGIL that all of the different projects for Lombard are being recommended for approval while only some of the proposed work at Steele.

“The construction management company that we use Russell Construction. They have to go out and make sure they vet all the vendors. So it takes a lot longer than just saying, ‘oh you’re [the low bidder] and we’re done.’ So, Lombard we’re prepared to recommend all of the bids then Steele [just some] of the bids. Then we’ll move forward with the rest of the bids in September. ”

Asplund says that work is slated to start after Labor Day and both schools are scheduled to be completed by the start of the next school year.

It’s also believed that board members will also consider approving the replacement for Silver Streaks boy’s basketball coach Mike Reynolds.

Asplund says that Athletic Director Eric Matthews will present a recommendation to the board for them to consider.

In addition to filling this role, Matthews has another position to fill — the Softball Coach and Asplund says he’s getting started on that soon.

“He does have some applicants for it and he feels like the pool is there to have a really good coach. So, he’s going to hit that one going. [He’ll] start interviewing those cause felt like that was something we could move on a little bit later because of the applicant pool that he had. He knew he could do that after he got the basketball thing done.”

In addition to the personnel report, board members will consider the tentative budget for the coming school year.

The school board goes into open session at 7:00 p.m. at the district offices on Harrison Street.
