Mrs. Mary F. Crittenden, 77, of Galesburg, Illinois passed away at 2:49 am, Monday, August 26, 2019. Mary was born August 6, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois the daughter of Frank and Ethel (Pearce) Gottlieb. She married Norman G. Crittenden on February 13, 1965 in Galesburg. Mary is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Norm; her children, Chris (Tim) Peterson of Ankeny, Iowa and their children, Matt, Jason and Kayla Peterson; Kelly (Mark) Berardelli of Mokena, Illinois and their children, Joey and Ryan Berardelli; Gerald “Jerry” Crittenden of Hibbing, Minnesota and Steve (Mandy) Crittenden of Cambridge, Minnesota and their children, Parker and Avery Crittenden. Also surviving are her three sisters, Barbara (Gerald) Hanna, Linda (Marvin) Beale and Eileen Blake. Mary is preceded in death by her parents and her step mother, Elsie Gottlieb. Mary began her career as a registered nurse for St. Mary’s Hospital. On March 6, 1978 she began work at KCCDD for her life-long career. After 34 years, she retired from the Executive Director position on October 1, 2012. Mary was highly dedicated to enriching the lives of people with developmental disabilities and was honored to have the residential home, Crittenden Court, named for her efforts. Mary graduated from Lincoln-Way High School in New Lenox, Illinois in 1960 and St. Mary School of Nursing in Quincy, Illinois. Mary was a member of the Noon Lions Club. She was an avid outdoors person, enjoying all of nature’s activities including fishing, canoeing, travel and dog sledding just to name a few. Mary was of the Catholic faith. She was a proud and devoted mother and grandmother to her family.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 10:00 am Friday, August 30, 2019 at Covenant Church. Rev. Thomas Ek will officiate. Visitation will be 5:00-8:00 pm Thursday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Service Galesburg Chapel. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery.
