Robert C. “Bob” Melton, 90, of Galva, died at 8:00 a.m., Saturday, September 14, 2019, at Courtyard Estates in Galva. A Celebration of Life will be held at 12:30 p.m., Saturday, September 21 at Rux Funeral Home in Galva where military rites will be accorded by the Galva Fusiliers. Pastor Don Reul will officiate. A time to meet and greet the family will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Private inurnment will be in Galva Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Henry County Humane Society.

He was born April 12, 1929, in Galva, IL, the son of Charles and Lilly (Cathcart) Melton. He married Dixie M. McAllister on July 7, 1950, in Phoenix, AZ. She survives as does a daughter, Cathy Merritt of Sun Lakes, AZ, five grandchildren; Corey Merritt, Brian Merritt, Adam Melton, Megan Bilek, and Zach Melton, nine great-grandchildren and a sister, Mary Jensen of Galva. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Dale and his son, Randall.

Bob served his country in the Navy during the WWII and Korean eras. He had worked in several employment fields beginning with doing construction in Arizona and for the Arizona Highway Patrol and had operated a Texaco Gas Station in Arizona. He had a passion for farming and had farmed in the Galva area and also operated a gas station in Galva. He had also been a commodities broker and had worked for Heinhold. After retirement, he came a truckdriver and had built thirteen homes in Galva over the years. He was of the Methodist faith and was a member of the Galva Lions Club and took part in the Honor Flight on May 4, 2017. He had a great heart and enjoyed doing community service and helping others.
