Morrison, Dona Marie

Dona Marie Morrison, 91 of North Pekin and formerly of Abingdon, passed away at 7:20 p.m. Saturday, September 14, 2019, at the Hallmark House Nursing Center in Pekin. She was born April 2, 1928, in Berwick, Illinois, the daughter of Donald A. and Marie M. (Meadows) Spurgeon. She married John Edward “Ed” Morrison on June 16, 1946, at the home of her parents near Abingdon. He preceded her in death on June 7, 2005. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Connie Morrison and her son, Bruce Morrison. Dona is survived by two sons, Dan (and Jennie) Morrison of North Pekin and Rod Morrison of Mesa, Arizona; her daughter-in-law, Tammy Terbeek of Knoxville; 7 grandchildren, Several great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Billy Lee Spurgeon of Boca Grande, Florida; and several nieces and nephews and their families. She grew up in Abingdon and graduated from Abingdon High School in 1946. She was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy and later transferred her membership to the New Life Christian Fellowship in North Pekin. She was a member of the former Abingdon Boat Club, served in the Abingdon Auxiliary Police, was a former Cub Scout Leader, a volunteer driver for the Abingdon Community Handi-Van and was instrumental in the formation of the Abingdon stop for the Knox County Scenic Drive.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 19, 2019, at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel. The family suggests casual attire for her services. Bishop Gene Hooker will officiate. Burial will be in the Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday at the chapel.
