The Galesburg Public Library Foundation has hired an executive director, Heather Sipes who is also a part-time library employee in financial services.

The Foundation says in a news released that Sipes has lived in Galesburg for the past 18 years, having been involved with the library in several capacities over that period.

She’s been a patron, volunteer, and employee and the foundation says she’s in a unique position to understand the library’s inner workings of the library and how it interacts with support organizations and the community.

This comes after last month Noelle Thompson was hired as the new Executive Director for the Library.

Thompson and Sipes perhaps will guide their organizations through dynamic times as $50 million was marked for the Public Library Construction Act this year, the first funding since 2013.

Library trustees say that Galesburg would be in the first two spots on a waiting list for funding, meaning it’s possible that funding to construct a new library on Academy and Main Streets would become available in the near future.
