Vancil re-elected as Chief Judge of 9th Circuit

David Vancil has served as the 9th Judicial Circuit’s Chief Judge since 2015 but recently he was re-elected for another 2-year term.

Vancil has been a 9th Circuit Judge since 2002, having first been appointed but has been retained several times since, and currently presides in Henderson County’s courthouse.

He was selected again by his fellow 9th Circuit Judges. His seat on the bench will be up for retention again in 2020.

Vancil graduated from Southern High School in Stronghurst, Illinois, obtained a Bachelor’s from Illinois State University and his law degree from Southern Illinois in 1993.

Practically his entire legal career has been as a public employee in the 9th Judicial circuit.

Vancil had extensive experience in 3 of the circuit’s courtrooms even before he was appointed as a judge in 2002. He was an assistant public defender in Knox, assistant state’s attorney in Warren and Henderson County State’s attorney for 6 years before being appointed to the bench.

Vancil currently resides in Little York with his wife, Kelli.

Also, Judge Vancil was recently elected to the Board of Directors of the Illinois Judges Association and currently serves on the Illinois Judicial Committee on Circuit Clerk Education.

The 9th Circuit is comprised of Knox, Warren, Henderson, Hancock, Fulton and McDonough Counties.
