Galesburg City Council

Galesburg City Council approved a resolution at their Monday night meeting which could be a tipping point for several downtown alleyways to be improved.
Director of Planning and Public Works Wayne Carl says it would leverage private funding with public funding

The City would put in a maximum of $20,000 per project, the Galesburg Downtown Council would contribute another $20,000, and the property owner would fund 50 percent of the project.

Alderman Larry Cox called the plan a “long time coming.”

Peter Schwartzman lauded Alderman Wayne Dennis for his “fair bit” of involvement in the proposal

Council also ok’d another purchase of property from the Knox County Trustee, this time for 833 E. Brooks Street.

The City has previously demolished an unsafe structure located on the property and wanted to acquire the lot.

The land will go up for sale at a future date along with other City-owned properties that could potentially be developed or used by a successful bidder.

Council approved the purchase for $823.
