Galesburg Community Chorus Rehearsals
Monday, August 26 @ 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
Be a part of history by joining the Galesburg Community Chorus for their 75th season! Galesburg Community Chorus will begin rehearsals for the 2019-2020 season on Monday, August 26, 2019 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. in Jay Rehearsal Hall, Ford Center for the Fine Arts, on the campus of Knox College. All are welcome to join, and no auditions are necessary. Dues are $10 a semester, and music fees are $5 a semester. Students are not required to pay dues.
We begin the celebration of our 75th anniversary with a concert to ring in the holiday season on December 8th at 3:00p.m.. Bach’s Magnificat, one of the most beloved choral-orchestral works of the Baroque period, is brimming with great music and lively contrast, sometimes thrilling and full of energy, sometimes beautiful and haunting, and sometimes elegant and dance-like. The concert will also feature a variety of holiday selections as well as some of the great choruses from Handel’s Messiah.
Other events of the 2019-20 season include a performance by a guest choir and the Spring Concert which will feature the Galesburg premiere of Dan Forrest’s Requiem for the Living, a five-movement work for chorus and orchestra that deals with human suffering and loss and Ola Gjeilo’s Luminous Night of the Soul.
Sponsors of this season’s concerts include Blick Art Materials, OSF Healthcare, the Register-Mail, Walmart, Wells Fargo, the Galesburg Community Foundation, the City of Galesburg, and the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency.
The Galesburg Community Chorus, directed by Dr. Tim Pahel, is the oldest community music organization in the Galesburg area and is currently celebrating its 75th anniversary. It was founded in 1945 at Knox College, and the chorus retains its affiliation with the college, which provides rehearsal facilities.
