Kids’ Month: Experience the Art of Sub-Saharan Africa -Closing Reception

January 29, 2016 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

The Galesburg Civic Art Center and children from Galesburg and surrounding communities have been learning about the culture of Sub-Saharan Africa while creating original works of art.  Over 650 of these works are currently on display at the Galesburg Civic Art Center through Friday, January 29 when a closing reception pizza party will be held from 5-7pm.  Pizza will be provided by Milano’s Pizza.  This program is supported in part by the Galesburg Community Foundation and BLICK Art Materials, and is FREE and open to the public.

Elementary students, grades K-5, have explored bead making, masks, weaving, Tinga Tinga, Ndebele painted houses, and drums, while young artists grades 8-6 have been attending Saturday workshops where they have created and painted 3D safari animals. Artwork created over this past month, may be taken home on Friday, January 29.

Kids’ Month occurs every January, and is a free program provided for area elementary and middle school children to explore the art and culture of a specific area of the world.
