Knox County Health Department Looks into Accreditation
The Knox County Board of Health met Thursday night to finalize their 2013 budget.

The finalizing had already taken place, but due to a federal grant, line items were added.

Accounting for the new funds seemed to be a problem with Knox County as Board President Jackie Turner said it had to do with transparency.

The board approved the new budget - which will be considered by the County Finance committee.

Also on the agenda was the development of emergency items in the case of extreme weather or widespread power outages.

Director of Health Protection Monica Hendrickson says they're developing emergency action plans as well as business continuity plans.

"We're looking at how we are as a department operating what our emergency services are and everything from communication protocol to utilizing the internet and other text messaging services to make sure that we're able to communicate with our clients, our community and even each other in these types of scenarios."

The Directors plan to go through the templates in the coming weeks.

The Health Department has also started the accreditation process.

Several internal steps need to be taken before the accreditation process can begin.

From the discussion, the board believes getting accreditation will give favor when applying for grants.
