Habitat for Humanity Marks Milestone
It might have taken a little longer they like, but those in charge of Knox County's Habitat for Humanity chapter have reached the 45 mark.

45 is the number of homes that have been built by the agency in their local existence. The 45th home is at 564 Monroe Street and was dedicated during a weekend ceremony.

Habitat for Humanity Executive Director Jim Ecklund tells the WGIL Morning News the recent economic downturn did have some adverse affects.

"We had trouble finding qualified families. There were so many folks so deeply in debt to build a house and sell it it wouldn't have worked out for them and we wouldn't wanted to done that. But the last year or so things have picked up, did a couple of house last year, couple of houses now and the most recent year and a couple more planned to begin in the spring."

Ecklund says he's talked to some other Habitat for Humanity organizations around the region, and all of them were dealing with the same problem.

Ecklund says those qualified for Habitat homes still have to make mortgage payments after they move in.

That can be, on average, around $400 a month.
