Museum Alliance Aims for More Visitors
MONMOUTH, Ill. (AP) -- Museum officials in west-central Illinois hope that a newly formed alliance will encourage more residents to visit a greater number of museums in the region.

Museums officials in Galesburg, Knoxville and Abingdon have formed the West Central Illinois Museum Alliance in an effort to persuade people traveling in the area to stop at multiple museums along the way.

Museum officials plan to host a museum and food expo in March in Galesburg to promote all of the participating museums and nearby restaurants.

As part of the partnership, museums will coordinate their hours of operation to make them more accessible.

Museum officials hope the alliance will lead to a spike in local tourism.
