OSF St. Mary CEO Retiring in June
The longtime head of one of Galesburg's two hospitals will be stepping down at the middle of the year.

A statement from OSF Saint Mary Medical Center indicates CEO Richard Kowalski has announced his intention to retire by the end of June.

The statement indicates that Kowalski had been thinking hard about retirement for the last year, and and came to the conclusion that it was time for such a role.

Kowalski has been CEO of St. Mary's since 1979. OSF Healthcare expanded his role in 2009 to make him CEO of the entire Western region, and has overseen things like expansions at the hospital, the transitioning of the Henderson Street Galesburg Clinic location into the OSF group, and the recruitment of doctors and other staff to the area.

Kowalski has served on a number of professional boards, and is currently on the board of the Galesbug Regional Economic Development Association.

The hospital has so far provided no word on a timetable for selecting a replacement.
